The New Jersey Coalition of Latino Pastors and Ministers has endorsed Patricia Campos-Medina for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination, giving her the support of over five dozen influential clergy members as she seeks grassroots support from Latino community leaders in the June 4 Democratic primary.

“Her unwavering dedication to the Latino community and working families is vital to New Jersey and our diverse communities. We need strong, ethical leaders in the U.S. Senate that will represent and advocate for our community, like Dr. Campos-Medina,” said Rev. Julio Escotto, a pastor from Hackensack.

Campos-Medina is fighting to retain Hispanic representation for one of New Jersey’s two Senate seats.  The incumbent, Bob Menendez, is one of one of six Hispanics in the Senate, and one of eleven to ever serve there; his indictment makes it unlikely that he’ll return next year – he’s not a candidate for the Democratic nomination, but has said he might run as an independent if a jury this summer were to acquit him on federal corruption charges.

When Menendez arrived in the Senate more than eighteen years ago, he was one of three Hispanics in the 100-member body, and the sixth to ever serve.

“The moment has arrived to elect a woman, a Latina leader like Dr. Patricia CamposMedina, whose experience and passion will guarantee that our community’s needs are heard and addressed without hesitation,” said Rev. Jesus Sevilla, a Paterson pastor.

Campos-Medina said CoLaPa’s endorsement is a “powerful affirmation of my commitment to represent every voice in our community.

“Their support underscores their dedication to advocating for justice, equality, and compassion for all,” she said.  “Their endorsement fuels my determination to amplify the voices of our diverse communities.”

Last month, Campos-Medina won the support of PODER PAC, which supports pro-choice Democratic Latina congressional candidates.

“PODER PAC proudly stands behind Patricia Campos-Medina as she paves the way for representation, reproductive justice, and labor rights,” said Ingrid Duran, the group’s chair.
