A former Georgia football All-American is leaving the Bulldogs’ support staff to return to where he starred in high school.

Jarvis Jones is the new head coach at Carver High in Columbus, where Jones became the No. 3-ranked recruit in the state in 2009. The school announced the hire Sunday, according to Columbus TV stations WRBL and WTVM.

Jones was a two-time All-American outside linebacker at Georgia after transferring from Southern Cal. He became a first-round draft pick in 2013 of the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played for four seasons.

He returned to Georgia as a student assistant on Kirby Smart’s staff in 2019 and most recently served as a player connection coordinator. He helped with the outside linebackers in practice.

Jones holds the school record for sacks in a season with 14 ½ and tackles for loss with 24 ½ set in 2012.

Jones replaces Pierre Coffey, who was hired as principal at Stewart County High. He led Carver to a state championship last season.
