EXCLUSIVE: In honor of actor and Tribeca Festival co-founder Robert De Niro, Tribeca Studios is partnering with New York City’s Mercer Labs for the immersive short film experience De Niro, New York, which splices together and reimagines scenes from more than 40 of the two-time Oscar winner’s films into one cohesive project.
Opening at the Lower Manhattan-located museum as part of its Summer Nights at Mercer Labs with Tribeca series, the showing will run Thursdays-Sundays from June 19-July 13, from 7-11 p.m.
De Niro, New York originally premiered at last year’s Tribeca Festival in honor of the Zero Day star’s 80th birthday. Billed as a “singular cinematic journey” co-directed by Sam Gill and Luke Neher, and produced by Tribeca Studios and Little Cinema, the film combines an original score with 360-degree spatial sound, allowing audiences to view De Niro’s work in a new way.
“Reimagining Robert De Niro’s iconic work through immersive technology is a new way to experience one of the greatest actors of our time,” Jane Rosenthal, Tribeca co-founder and CEO, said in a statement. “His legacy is deeply tied to New York, and with Summer Nights at Mercer Labs, we’re bringing that connection full circle. It’s a celebration of film, memory, and the city that shaped it all.”
